ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Led by senior
Bronagh Power-Cassidy's game-high 19 points, the Holy Cross women's basketball team picked up their fifth straight win 69-54 over Patriot League opponent Navy Wednesday evening in Alumni Hall.
The win sends the Crusaders to 9-5, 3-0 PL while the Midshipmen fall to 4-10, 0-3 PL.
Power-Cassidy shot 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) and 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from deep with four rebounds. Sophomore
Simone Foreman had a strong showing notching 15 points (6-of-11, 54.5 percent shooting) with eight rebounds. Senior
Cara McCormack joined her teammates in double figures with 11 markers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Power-Cassidy drove from the top of the point and used her left hand to move the Crusaders back ahead 7-4 at the 7:15 mark. Foreman added onto the lead as the Crusaders led 9-4 at the media timeout. Junior Lindsay Berger blocked a shot attempt and sophomore Kaitlyn Flanagan went the other way for two as the lead expanded to eight. Holy Cross led 16-11 through one.
- Navy dropped their deficit to two, 21-19 with 7:07 left before the break. From that point, the Crusaders outscored the Mids 15-4 getting back-to-back triples off the shot of junior Grace Munt and Power-Cassidy. Foreman drained a mid-range jumper on the right elbow as the horn sounded for the 36-23 halftime lead.
- The hosts cut their deficit to 12, however seven straight with five coming from Power-Cassidy expanded the edge to 49-30 with 4:55 left. Foreman snagged an offensive rebound and converted a floater for the 20 point lead through three.
- A 7-0 Navy run in the fourth brought them within 14, 59-45. They connected on a jumper with under two minutes left to make it 62-52.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Holy Cross has started 3-0 in the conference for the second straight year.
- Power-Cassidy has 139 career three-pointers needs three more to move to 10th on the program's all-time list (141, Alison Dietz 1994-98).
- McCormack had one block in the contest and established a new single season career high with her third block of the season.
- Flanagan has recorded three or more steals four times this season.
- As a team, Holy Cross shot a season-high from the field (52.1 percent, 25-for-48) and from three-point range (53.8 percent, 7-of-13).
