WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward
Ethan Gill scored his first goal of the season, as the Holy Cross men's soccer team tied American 1-1 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders move to 1-4-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Patriot League, while the Eagles are now 1-2-2 on the year and 0-0-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Holy Cross jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play on Gill's goal.
• Freshman defender
Jeb Snead played the ball to freshman defender
Gavin Penzone in the center of the field, before Penzone passed the ball ahead to Gill in the penalty box.
• Gill then one-timed the ball into the net from 10 yards out in the center of the box.
• The Crusaders held onto the lead until the 88th minute, when Ethan Boyle scored for American to tie the game at 1-1.
• There was a scramble in front of the net after a shot by Boyle was blocked by Penzone, before Boyle collected the ball and scored from six yards out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior goalkeeper
Tristan Stephani made four saves for Holy Cross, while Matthew Tibbetts had two saves for American
• The Eagles finished the game with a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 15-2 edge in corner kicks.
• In 20 career games played, Gill now has two goals and one assist for five points.

• Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when it plays host to Massachusetts at 7:00 p.m.
