WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior midfielder
Jake Williams scored the only goal of the night as the Holy Cross men's soccer team defeated Sacred Heart 1-0 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 1-1-1 on the season with the win, while the Pioneers fall to 1-2-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was scoreless until the 83rd minute, when Williams put Holy Cross on the board with his first goal of the season.
• The play began when freshman defender
Brock Frasier sent a throw in to junior forward
Evan Jones in the lower right corner of the penalty box.
• Jones then fought through a defender before passing the ball in front of the goal, where Williams knocked it home with his left foot from six yards out.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior goalkeeper
Tristan Stephani picked up the first shutout of his collegiate career while making two saves.
• The Pioneers finished the game with a 9-5 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
• In 37 career games played, Williams now has two goals and six assists for 10 points.
