The Holy Cross football team is ranked No. 4 in
HERO Sports' FCS Preseason Top 25, as announced on Thursday, June 1.
The Crusaders return to the gridiron in 2023 after a record-setting 2022 campaign, in which the Crusaders secured their fourth consecutive Patriot League championship. Holy Cross won a program-record 12 games and finished with a 12-1 record, falling in the NCAA FCS quarterfinals to eventual national champion South Dakota State. The Crusaders also posted their first 11-0 regular season since 1991.
Last year, Holy Cross averaged 37.38 points per contest – ranking eighth in FCS – and 449.4 yards of total offense a game. Defensively, the Crusaders held their opponents to just 21.5 points per contest, the best mark in the Patriot League.
Entering the 2023 season, Holy Cross has won 16 straight regular-season contests, 17 consecutive Patriot League games and two straight games against FBS opponents. The Crusaders have also won an NCAA playoff game each of the last two seasons. This fall, Holy Cross returns three All-Americans and 10 All-Patriot League honorees. Â
