Baseball falls to Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Holy Cross baseball team came up short in both ends of a doubleheader against Bucknell on Saturday, April 29. 

GAME ONE 
Bucknell 4, Holy Cross 2

THE DECISION:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Holy Cross got on the board quickly, with sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon hitting a one-out single in the top of the first and freshman right fielder Jack Toomey driving him home with a double. 
  • The Crusaders held on to the one-run lead until the bottom of the fourth, when the Bison tied up the game on an RBI groundout. 
  • Bucknell scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up by a score of 4-1. 
  • Holy Cross got a run back in the top of the seventh after freshman center fielder CJ Egrie scored on a fielder's choice, but the Crusaders could rally no further.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore first baseman Chris Baillargeon hit a two-run triple to put Holy Cross on the board in the top of the first. 
  • Junior third baseman Jake McElroy had a sac fly to extend the Crusader lead to 3-0 by the second inning. 
  • Bucknell made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the third with an RBI double. 
  • A bunt single by sophomore shortstop Jimmy King scored another run to extend the Holy Cross lead to 4-1. 
  • The Bison scored four runs in the seventh inning to jump ahead, 5-4. 
  • Junior catcher Patrick Casserly scored after an error to knot the game up at 5-5 in the top of the eighth. 
  • Bucknell quickly regained the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the eighth.
DUE UP: 
  • The Crusaders and Bison are scheduled to play a single contest on Sunday, April 30. 
  • First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
