Softball hosts Bucknell this weekend

The Holy Cross softball team is in the midst of a 12 game homestand and will welcome Patriot League opponent Bucknell to Freshman Field on Saturday, April 22 for a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m. before a single game on Sunday, April 23 at noon. Both games on Saturday will be streamed live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (14-29-1, 2-10 PL):
  • Holy Cross is 6-3-1 over their last 10 games and is coming off a 3-2 extra inning setback to Siena on Thursday afternoon. Freshman Ali Sniegocki was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while freshman pitcher Sophia Roncone retired 16 straight batters in the contest earning a tough luck loss.
  • Junior Megan Yurchick and freshman Anna Brait were named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Tuesday afternoon. Yurchick totaled a 2-0 record, a 0.76 ERA, and two complete games in four starts. Across 18.1 innings pitched, Yurchick had 18 strikeouts, a .141 batting average against and tossed the fourth no-hitter in program history. Brait slashed .435/.458/.522 (AVG/OB%/SLG%) and had a .980 OPS pacing the team with 10 hits, two doubles, and six RBI.
  • Brait and junior Claire McCann have reached base in six consecutive contests for the Crusaders. Brait's longest reached base streak is eight games while McCann's is seven this season.
  • Over the last six games, junior Jessica Mott has seen her batting average rise from .248 to .278 thanks to a 10-for-23 (.435) stretch in which she produced four multiple hit games, three two hit efforts and one three hit performance from the leadoff spot. Mott has two doubles, a triple, three RBI and two walks in those contests.  
SCOUTING THE BISON (10-26, 2-10 PL):
  • Bucknell is 1-10 over their last 11 games and has dropped six straight contests including a 9-0 five inning run rule defeat to Penn State on Tuesday evening. Savannah Jones, Chase Knapp and Bella Radican were 1-for-2 each in the contest accounting for all three Bison hits.
  • During the six game slide, Bucknell has been outscored 32-9 by their opponents.
  • The Bucknell offense is paced by Zoie Smith who is hitting a team-high .355 with a team-best 12 doubles, and 17 RBI. She is also a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases. In the circle, Madison Roukey has a squad-low 2.80 ERA and has struck out 27 batters in a team-high matching 55.0 innings.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Bucknell leads the series 69-39 against the Crusaders dating back to 1991.
  • Holy Cross won two of the three games last season against Bucknell.
