- Army quickly responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then used a six-run second inning to jump ahead, 8-2.
- Holy Cross got two runs back in the top of the third, with junior third baseman Jake McElroy scoring on a wild pitch and sophomore first baseman Chris Baillargeon driving in a run with a single to right-center.
- A three-run homer by Army third baseman Sam Ruta sparked a five-run inning that gave the Black Knights a 13-4 advantage.
- In the fourth, Cooney walked with the bases loaded and freshman catcher Lucas Manning drove in two runs to bring the Crusaders within 13-7.
- The Black Knights scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Holy Cross matched that in the top of the fifth, when back-to-back RBI doubles by sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon and freshman right fielder Jack Toomey made it a 15-9 game.
- Army hit another three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
- A solo homer by sophomore shortstop Brendan Jones cut the score to 18-10.
- A sac fly and three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh built a 22-10 advantage for Army.
- Freshman Will Harding had a two-out pinch-hit single in the top of the ninth for his first collegiate hit. Scanlon singled to put runners on the corners, and Harding scored after a passed ball. A pinch-hit single to left by senior Chris Benton then made it a 22-12 game.
