EASTON, Mass. — The Holy Cross baseball team cruised to a 20-7 victory over Stonehill in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders put up five runs in the top of the second inning. Junior third baseman Jake McElroy was hit by a pitch with the bases load to drive in the first run, and sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon had a sac fly to tack on another run. Two more runs scored after a fielding error by the right fielder, and sophomore left fielder Connor Cooney singled to send home the fifth run of the inning.
- McElroy hit an infield single to score a run in the top of the third, and freshman center fielder CJ Egrie scored on a double steal to push the Holy Cross advantage to 7-0.
- The Skyhawks had a pair of RBI singled to bring them within 7-2 in the bottom of the third.
- Holy Cross scored five more runs in the top of the fourth, with back-to-back errors making it a 9-2 game before sophomore second baseman Connor Peek walked with the bases loaded to build a 10-2 advantage. A sac fly by McElroy gave Holy Cross an 11-2 lead, and Scanlon doubled to score another run.
- Stonehill hit a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth to drive in another run, and a two-run sixth helped the Skyhawks cut within 12-5.
- The Crusaders rattled off eight runs in the top of the seventh to extend the advantage to 20-5. Cooney hit a two-run double with the bases loaded to score two runs, and freshman shortstop Oliver Brown had a two-run single to build a 16-5 edge. Senior first baseman Chris Benton scored after a passed ball, and a two-run triple by Peek gave Holy Cross a 19-5 lead. Freshman Will Harding drew a pinch-hit walk to drive in one more run.
- Stonehill scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Crusaders' lead proved insurmountable.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Holy Cross' 20 runs were a season-high.
DUE UP:
- The Crusaders head to Kingston, R.I., for a contest against the University of Rhode Island.
- First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
