Softball hosts Brown, travels to Merrimack

The Holy Cross softball program will compete in back-to-back doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday taking on nonconference foe Brown at Freshman Field on Tuesday, April 11 at 3 and 5 p.m. before traveling to nonleague opponent Merrimack on Wednesday, April 12 at 3 and 5 p.m. All four contests will be streamed live.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (8-26):
  • The Crusaders have dropped four straight games including a 4-3 loss to Colgate on Easter Sunday. Freshman shortstop Anna Brait was 2-for-2 with an RBI while junior Jessica Mott was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Mott is currently on a four game hitting streak for the Crusaders. She is hitting .333 with a team-high four RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored during the stretch. Mott has reached base in five straight games which is currently a team-high.
  • During the 1-0 win versus Hartford on Thursday, freshman hurler Sophia Roncone threw 10 innings and struck out 18 batters which are single-game season highs in the Patriot League in 2023. Roncone's 18 strikeouts are tied for the fifth most in a game in the NCAA this season and the 18 punch outs were the most in a game for the Crusaders since Kelly Nelson struck out 15 on March 27, 2021.
SCOUTING THE BEARS (8-19):
  • Brown comes to Worcester following three straight victories sweeping Ivy League opponent Cornell this past weekend at home. On Saturday, the Bears earned a pair of 3-2 victories. In game two, Dara English was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in the win.
  • On the year, Brown is 5-3 on their home field while going 2-11 away and 1-5 on neutral sites.
  • Alexis Guevara has thrived in the circle for Brown this season. A one-time Ivy League Pitcher of the Week, Guevara is 6-7 on the season with a 2.42 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP and a .242 opponents' batting average with 68 strikeouts and 86.2 innings pitched. She has nine complete games and two shutouts on the year.
PREVIEWING THE WARRIORS (10-18):
  • Merrimack has won three straight contests by sweeping NEC foe Stonehill last Thursday and Friday. In their last contest on Friday, the Warriors earned a 2-1 victory versus the Skyhawks. Sofia Palyan was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Bry Michitson tossed a complete game punch out eight batters in the win.
  • Sydney Samuel is a one-time NEC Player and Rookie of the Week for Merrimack this season. On the season, Samuel is hitting .222 with a home run, 10 RBI and a stolen base.
  • For the Warriors, Courtney Lanpher is the leading hitter with a .438 batting average, and a team-high 1.241 OPS. Lanpher has a team-high four home runs and is third in RBI.
