FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - The No. 21 Holy Cross men's rowing team had three boats compete in the Occoquan Collegiate Invitation, hosted by No. 15 Navy, on the Occoquan Resevoir.
In the morning qualifier races, the Varsity Eight faced Hobart in a duel race to determine who went to the grand final. The Varsity Eight finished with a time of 5:53.66, just under 12 seconds ahead of Hobart to earn the bid. The 2nd Varsity Eight finished second behind Navy in their qualifier, with a time of 5:59.93. The 3rd Varsity Eight took third in their qualifier with a 6:06.18, finishing behind Navy and Drexel.
The afternoon finals saw more success for the three boats, with the Varsity Eight taking second and the 2nd Varsity Eight taking third. The 3rd Varsity Eight finishing second in their petite final.
The No. 21 Varsity Eight recorded a 5:42.49 finish, taking down #22 Georgetown by .30 seconds, and #15 Navy by a staggering 5.26 seconds. This marked the first time in program history that the Crusaders' Varsity Eight has beaten the Midshipmen's Varsity Eight.Â
The 2nd Varsity Eight recorded a 6:01.98 finish, defeating Georgetown. The 3rd Varsity Eight finished with a 6:10.77, placing them ahead of Jacksonville.
Men's rowing will continue its spring schedule when it heads to West Windsor, N.J. next Sunday, April 16, to face Georgetown, Marist, and Temple.
