Freshman right-handed pitcher
Danny Macchiarola of the Holy Cross baseball team has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, March 28.
Macchiarola had a stellar start against Army in a pitchers' duel on Friday, March 24. Across five innings pitched, he struck out a career-best eight batters - the most in a single game by a Crusader this season - while allowing just one run. He did not concede any walks and gave up just three hits during his outing.Â
He leads Holy Cross with 20 strikeouts this year across six appearances. Macchiarola is the second Crusader this year to earn Rookie of the Week honors, as right fielder
Jack Toomey was selected for the honor on Feb. 28.Â
The Crusaders are back in action on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against Harvard. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.Â
