Softball opens Patriot League play this weekend

The Holy Cross softball program begins Patriot League action this weekend when they take on Army West Point Friday, March 24 at 6 p.m. for a single game and Sunday, March 26 at 12 and 2 p.m. for a doubleheader. The contests will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (5-16, 0-0 PL):
  • The Crusaders have dropped five straight contests including a doubleheader at Quinnipiac 5-1 and 8-0 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon. In game one, freshman Ali Sniegocki was 1-for-3 with an RBI while junior Jessica Mott was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Junior Claire McCann was named Patriot League Honorable Mention on Tuesday. McCann hit .571 across two games for the Crusaders with a home run, a double and five RBI.
  • Freshman Anna Brait has excelled with runners in scoring position this year. Brait is hitting .348 with runners on second and third and with two outs she is hitting .333.
  • Senior Bailey Bates is tied for fifth in the Patriot League in walks (11) and Jessica Mott is tied for fifth in doubles (6). Brait currently ranks 10th in the conference in batting average .317. while Ali Sniegocki is 10th in slugging percentage (.462).
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS (7-20, 0-0 PL):
  • Army West Point is 1-9 over their last 10 games including a 7-0 setback to Gardner-Webb on Sunday. Kayla Edwards was the lone student-athletes with multiple hits as she went 2-for-4 in the contest.
  • Over the last two games, the Black Knights have been shutout twice and have been held scoreless in 12 consecutive innings.
  • In the Preseason Coaches Poll, Army was projected to finish third in the conference and earned 48 points. Kayla Edwards was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Last season, Holy Cross was 2-1 against Army West Point splitting a Saturday doubleheader at Freshman Field and winning the decisive game 7-2 on Sunday. April 24. Shortstop Bailey Bates was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Kari Jacobson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
