The Holy Cross baseball team will host the University of Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 21 at Fitton Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The game had previously moved to Auburn High School due to field conditions, but has returned as originally scheduled to Fitton Field due to improved conditions. Fans can follow game updates through
live stats.Â
Additionally, Holy Cross' contest at UMass-Lowell on Wednesday, March 22 will not be played as scheduled.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (5-14):Â
- Holy Cross comes off a weekend series against Seton Hall, winning the series opener against the Pirates on Saturday, March 18 by a score of 6-4.Â
- Throughout the weekend series, sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon hit .600 (6-for-10), and drew two walks and was hit by a pitch twice for an on-base percentage of .714. He doubled twice, posting a slugging percentage of .800. He went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two doubles in Holy Cross' win over the Pirates on Saturday.Â
- So far this year, Scanlon is hitting a team-leading .353 and ranks second in the Patriot League with an on-base percentage of .482. He is tied for the Patriot League lead with eight doubles on the year, and also has recorded a home run and 14 RBI.Â
- As a team, Holy Cross has hit 38 doubles this year.Â
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MINUTEMEN (3-7):
- UMass played three games against the University of Pennsylvania this past weekend, earning a 1-0 series-opening win before falling twice by scores of 9-3 and 19-4.Â
- The other two wins this year by the Minutemen came on March 4 in a doubleheader sweep of Patriot League foe Navy.Â
- First baseman Steve Luttazi (.348, four RBI) and outfielder Carter Hanson (.303, eight RBI) are leading the UMass offense so far this season.Â
- As a team, the Minutemen are batting .223, while their opponents are batting .291.Â
LAST TIME THEY MET:Â
- Holy Cross and UMass faced off on March 22, 2022 in Amherst, Mass., with Holy Cross earning a 17-6 win.Â
- Scanlon went 3-for-6 with three RBI in the win, while also starting on the mound and earning the win. Then-sophomore Patrick Casserly hit a double and a triple during a 3-for-6 showing, and then-rookie Brendan Jones went 3-for-7 with a triple and two RBI.Â
