Lauren Drillock scored a game-high five goals, but the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 25 Massachusetts 16-10 at Kuzniewski Field. The Crusaders fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Minutewomen improve to 4-1 overall.
Freshman
Tory Rider scored a career-high three goals for Holy Cross, while sophomore
Ella Kittredge added two goals. UMass was led by Fiona McGowan with four goals and four assists.
The Minutewomen started the game hot, jumping out to a 6-2 lead with 1:03 remaining in the first quarter. The Crusaders scored three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to two (7-5), but UMass closed out the half with three unanswered goals to take a 10-5 lead into halftime. The Minutewomen increased their lead to six (12-6) early in the second half, before goals by Drillock and Kittredge made it a four-goal game (12-8) heading into the fourth quarter. But UMass scored the next three goals to go up by seven (15-8) and went on to win by six.
Holy Cross is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, March 4, when it will play host to Long Island at 12 p.m.
