  • VMI scored three runs off an RBI single and two-run homer in the bottom half of the frame to jump in front, 3-1.
  • Junior right fielder Jake McElroy and sophomore shortstop Brendan Jones led off the second inning with back-to-back singles, and scored on a two-run double by freshman center fielder Jack Toomey to even things up. Senior right-handed pitcher Luke Fox then struck out the side in the bottom of the second.
  • The Keydets scored three runs in the bottom of the third to jump back ahead, 6-3.
  • The Crusaders tied the game again with an RBI single by Toomey and a two-run single by sophomore third baseman Connor Peek in the top of the fourth. Egrie and Benton each followed with RBI singles to push Holy Cross in the lead, 8-6.
  • VMI immediately responded with a four-run bottom of the fourth to regain the lead.
  • Shortstop Zac Morris scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to extend the Keydets' lead to 11-8.
  • Sophomore left fielder Connor Cooney hit a one-out double in the eighth inning and scored on a single to center by Egrie. Egrie stole second, and then advanced to third on a single by sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon; Benton hit another sacrifice fly to bring Holy Cross within 11-10.
  • Rookie right-handed pitcher Jaden Wywoda threw a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth, capped with a strikeout looking, to keep VMI off the board.
  • The Keydets contained Holy Cross' bats in the top of the ninth to prevent any more of a rally.
