LEXINGTON, Va. — The Holy Cross baseball team came up short against the Virginia Military Institute, falling by a score of 11-6 on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Gray-Minor Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Holy Cross took an early 1-0 lead off of a solo homer by freshman center fielder Jack Toomey in the second inning.
- VMI responded with three runs in the bottom of the second.
- Freshman second baseman CJ Egrie hit a two-run homer to even up the score in the third inning.
- The Keydets answered again with two runs in the third, and built their lead to 8-3 by the fourth.
- The Crusaders began to chip away at the deficit, with sophomore designated hitter Sean Scanlon scoring on an error and sophomore shortstop Brendan Jones driving in senior first baseman Chris Benton with an RBI single to make it an 8-5 game.
- Sophomore Chris Baillargeon hit a pinch-hit RBI double in the seventh to cut the score to 8-6. However, VMI used two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth to build an insurmountable 11-6 lead.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This marked Holy Cross' first multi-homer game of the year.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross will begin its spring break trip on Saturday, March 4 with a pair of contests at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.
- The Crusaders will face Dartmouth at 11 a.m. before playing against Wagner at 3 p.m.
