Men's ice hockey to face Canisius in regular season finale

The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team will close out the regular season with a two-game set against Atlantic Hockey opponent Canisius College on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday Feb. 25. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.

Friday's matchup will stream on FloHockey, while Saturday's matchup will be broadcast on NESN+. Saturday's matchup will also be senior day, with the program recognizing Nick Hale, Grayson Constable, Bobby Young, Alex Peterson, and Jackson MacNab in a ceremony prior to the game.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (13-16-3, 12-10-2 AHA):
  • The Crusaders swept Niagara last weekend, winning the first night in overtime, 4-3, before shutting out the Purple Eagles, 3-0 the second night.
  • Junior Alec Cicero led the way with four points over the weekend, while junior Matt Guerra led with two goals on the second night. 
  • Junior Jack Ricketts enters this weekend's matchup with an eight-game point streak. He has recorded six goals and seven assists for 13 points over the span.
  • Ricketts received an Honorable Mention for AHA Player of the week after his two point weekend (1-1-2).
  • Ricketts leads the squad in goals (15), assists (14) and points (29). Junior netminder Jason Grande holds a team-best 8-4-1 record, while sophomore Thomas Gale leads with a .906 save percentage and 2.54 goals-against average. 
  • The Crusaders are now 10-4-2 (10-3-1 AHA) since December.
  • With two games left to play, Holy Cross sits in fourth place in the AHA standings. 
 
SCOUTING CANISIUS (13-16-3, 11-10-3 AHA):
  • The Golden Griffins enter the matchup with a 8-5-1 record in AHA games since the holiday break. 
  • Canisius split their last two series against Air Force and Sacred Heart. 
  • Keaton Mastrodonato leads with 28 points and 13 goals, while David Melargni is tied with Mastrodonato for the lead in assists with 15. Netminder Jacob Barczewski holds a team-best 10-12-1 record, while John Hawthorne leads with a 2.62 GAA and .913 save percentage.
  • Canisius sits in fifth place in the AHA standings, two points behind the Crusaders.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • All time, the Crusaders are 37-25-12 against the Golden Griffins.
  • In their last meeting on Nov. 4-5, 2022 in Buffalo, N.Y., the Crusaders took the first meeting, 3-1. Ricketts, sophomore Liam McLinskey, and junior Tyler Ghirardosi recorded goals, while Gale posted 23 saves.
  • On the second night, the two teams played to a 2-2 tie, with Holy Cross winning the shootout.
  • The Crusaders are 3-5-2 in the last ten matchups between the two teams.
