MACON, Ga. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Mercer University, 15-6, on Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
Freshman attacker
Tyler Marmo led the way for the Crusaders (0-4, 0-0 PL) with two goals, while senior
Thomas McIntire added a goal and two assists. Junior netminder
Dawson Friers recorded 18 saves on the day.
Mercer (1-2, 0-0 ASUN) was led by Jack Sullivan, who recorded seven points (2-5-7), and Parker Junod, who netted four goals. Netminder Colin Kelley made 6 saves in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Cameron Magalotti scored the first goal of the game, assisted by McIntire, at the 2:31 mark of the first quarter.
- Mercer went on a 5-0 run over the remainder of the first quarter and the start of the second.
- Marmo picked up his first goal of the game with just over a minute remaining in the half to bring the score to 5-2.
- McIntire opened the third quarter to bring the score to 6-3. Mercer scored three goals before sophomore Michael Bonomo picked up his first goal as a Crusader.
- Mercer picked up one more goal before the end of the third quarter before opening the final frame with a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 15-4.
- Sophomore Baker Reding picked up his second goal of the season off a feed by Cameron Magalotti with just under two minutes left to play.
- Marmo picked up his second of the day with just over a minute left off a pass by McIntire.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Junior Connor DePiero (7-12) and freshman Jordan Naso (6-10) combined to go 13-22 at the X.
- With his goal, McIntire extended his scoring streak to nine games.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross returns home for their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 25, when they face Dartmouth.
- Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Kuzniewski Field.
