HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Caleb Kenney scored a career-high 16 points on eight of 11 shooting from the field, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Colgate 96-73 at Cotterell Court. The Crusaders fall to 10-19 overall and 7-9 in the Patriot League, while the Raiders improve to 21-8 on the year and 15-1 in the conference.

Holy Cross hit 45.3 percent of its field goal attempts and 33.3 percent of its three-pointers on the day, while committing just nine turnovers. Colgate was able to knock down 58.6 percent of its shots from the floor and held a 44-26 rebounding advantage.

The Raiders started the game hot, jumping out to a 16-point lead (30-14) after the first 10 minutes of play. The Crusaders responded with a 12-4 spurt to cut the deficit to single digits (34-26), and eventually made it a six-point game (46-40) heading into the locker room at halftime.

Holy Cross kept the game close early in the second half, closing to within two points (49-47) following a layup by senior forward Gerrale Gates with 17 minutes left to play. The Crusaders were later down by five (58-53) at the 13:57-mark, before Colgate went on an 18-4 run to go in front by 19 (76-57). The Raiders would lead by at least 15 points the rest of the way, pulling away in the closing minutes for a 23-point victory.

Freshman guard Will Batchelder totaled 14 points, four assists and three rebounds on the afternoon, while tying the Holy Cross single-season record with his 82nd made three-pointer of the season. Junior guard Joe Octave (12 points), junior guard Bo Montgomery (11 points) and Gates (10 points) also scored in double-figures the Crusaders. Tucker Richardson led Colgate with 19 points.

Holy Cross will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22, when it travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 7 p.m. game.
