Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's hockey unable to answer Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to Connecticut, 3-0, on Friday night. The Crusaders move to 7-24-1, (6-20-0 Hockey East). The Huskies improve to 17-12-4 overall and 11-11-4 in conference standings. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Huskies jumped on the board first with a quick goal from Jada Habisch at 2:21 in the first period. 
  • Connecticut continued pacing the game and added to its lead, slipping two more goals by freshman goaltender Brooke Loranger before the end of the first. They outshot Holy Cross 9-3 after 20 minutes.
  • Holy Cross received the first power play of the night halfway through the second period. The Crusaders took one shot on goal that was turned away by sophomore goalie Tia Chan.
  • The Crusaders drew their first penalty at 19:20 in the second. The Huskies tallied 2 shots on goal, both sent away by Loranger. 
  • Holy Cross tripled their shot count during the second, but trailed the Huskies 19-12 by the end of the period.
  • Seconds after the Connecticut power play ended, the Huskies picked up their second penalty of the night. The Crusaders were unable to capitalize on the extra-skater advantage.
  • Holy Cross outshot the Huskies 11-4 in the final period, but couldn't find the back of the net before the final buzzer.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Loranger posted 20 saves adding to her season total (318).
  • Senior Mary Edmonds led the team in faceoffs wins with 10. 
  • Senior Kailey Langefels and sophomore Emma Min led the d-corps with three blocks apiece. Min holds the team-high 58 blocks.
  • The Crusaders' penalty kill unit has killed all UConn power plays throughout the series. 
UP NEXT: 
  • Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 as they host the Huskies for the final game of the regular season. Saturday night will be senior night at the Hart Center Rink, with the members of the program's senior class being honored in a special pregame ceremony. The six Crusader seniors are Carly Beniek, Kailey Langefels, Mary Edmonds, Darci Johal, Sofia Smithson and Lily Cataldo. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
