Women's hockey falls to Connecticut on senior night

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to Connecticut, 3-0, on Saturday night in the final contest of the regular season. The Crusaders end the year at 7-25-1, (6-21-0 Hockey East). The Huskies finish at 18-12-4 overall and 12-11-4 in conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Similar to Friday's contest, Connecticut went on the board first with a goal at 18:43 in the first period.
  • The Huskies snuck another puck by junior goaltender Madison Beck just before the end of the first, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.
  • The Crusaders found themselves in penalty trouble, picking up two in the first half of the second period. The Holy Cross penalty kill unit continued to give the Huskies trouble and held strong, not allowing another goal. During the penalty kills, Beck posted six saves, including five during the second power play.
  • Connecticut added the third and final goal of the night at 16:51 in the second period.
  • Each team played defensively in the third period with the Huskies outshooting the Crusaders, 6-4.
  • Holy Cross was unable to find the back of the net, falling to Connecticut, 3-0, at the final buzzer.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Beck posted 26 saves adding to her season total (695). She finishes the season with a .923 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average.
  • Senior Mary Edmonds led the team in faceoffs wins with 13.
  • Senior Kailey Langefels led the d-corps with three blocks apiece. Min holds the team-high 58 blocks.
  • In the past four games, the Crusaders' penalty kill unit have killed one-hundred percent of power play attempts.
