BOSTON – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell short against Boston University, with a 2-1 setback on Friday, Dec. 8. 

The Terriers (7-8-2, 5-6-1 Hockey East) held a one-goal lead for the majority of the contest before junior Madison Michals scored the equalizer for the Crusaders (5-11-2, 2-8-2 Hockey East) midway through the third. However, BU regained the lead with under five minutes remaining in regulation to take the Turnpike Trophy matchup.

Sophomore goaltender Brooke Loranger totaled 40 saves in the contest.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• BU took an early 1-0 lead just 3:14 into the contest after a goal by Ani Fitzgerald. 
• Loranger stopped 17 shots in the opening frame, and made 14 more stops in a scoreless second period.
• After scooping up the loose puck along the end boards, freshman Lulu Rourke quickly turned and fired in a shot that ricocheted off BU goaltender Mari Pietersen's pads and sailed out to the slot. But Michals was there for the rebound, firing it in for the tally. 
• Luisa Welcke's rebound goal with 4:47 left broke the deadlock, and the Terriers held on for a 2-1 victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

• Loranger's 40 saves were a season-high and marked the second 40-save game of her career.

UP NEXT: 

• The Crusaders will enjoy a break for finals and the holidays before resuming game action on Jan 5, 2024 with a home matchup vs. Northeastern. 
• Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. at the Hart Center Rink.
