Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's ice hockey skates to a tie with UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Men's ice hockey tied UMass Lowell, 2-2, Friday night at the Tsongas Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders (8-7-3) got on the board first at the 14:25 mark of the first period on a tip by senior Matt Guerra. Freshman Brody Gagno sent a pass across the blue line to sophomore Charlie Spence, who walked the puck down the boards. Spence sent a shot on net, finding the stick of Guerra, who was able to redirect the puck past the Riverhawks' (6-9-2) netminder.
  • UMass Lowell tied the game at one-all just over eight minutes later.
  • Holy Cross retook the lead on a goal by junior Liam McLinskey with 57.7 seconds remaining in the opening frame. After a shot by senior Jack Ricketts was blocked by the Riverhawks' defense, McLinskey picked up the loose puck and sent it on net.
  • Following the second Crusader goal, UMass Lowell changed their goaltender. The Riverhawks were relentless in the second period, outshooting the Crusaders 14-6, though neither team was able to score.
  • UMass Lowell tied the game with 10:17 remaining in the third period, sending the game to overtime. The Crusaders outshot the Riverhawks, 4-0, in the extra frame.
  • UMass Lowell converted both of their shootout attempts to take the shootout.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Grande recorded 28 saves, while UMass Lowell's tandem of Luke Pavicich and Henry Welsch tallied 22.
  • The Riverhawks held the edge in faceoffs, taking 42 to Crusaders' 25.
  • The Crusaders held the Riverhawks to 0-for-1 on the power play tonight, extending their penalty kill streak to 32 opportunities.
