Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Ten Crusaders record points in men's ice hockey's win over UMass Lowell

WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's ice hockey closed out the first half of the season with a decisive 4-2 win over UMass Lowell Saturday night at the Hart Center Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • UMass Lowell (6-10-2) got on the board 49 seconds into the contest to take a 1-0 lead early.
  • Senior Alec Cicero tied the game at the 8:28 mark, rifling a shot past the Riverhawks' netminder. Freshman Will Troutwine poke checked the puck off a UMass Lowell skaters' stick, which sophomore Jack Seymour was able to redirect towards Cicero. Cicero skated the puck through the neutral zone untouched before sending a wrist shot past the netminder.
  • Freshman Jack Stockfish took the lead for the Crusaders (9-7-3) 1:14 after Cicero's goal. Keeping possession in the offensive zone, junior Matt Shatsky drew a defender before sending a short pass to Stockfish, who one-timed it across the ice to senior Jack Robilotti. Robilotti sent a feed to Stockfish cutting across the middle of the offensive zone. Stockfish sent a quick wrist shot onto goal, which found its way through the Riverhawks goaltender.
  • Skating in his 100th collegiate game, senior Jack Ricketts extended the Crusader lead to 3-1 with a power play goal 14 seconds into the man-advantage at the 12:34 mark of the second period. Senior Tyler Ghirardosi poked the puck off the faceoff win by senior Matt Guerra to junior Liam McLinskey. McLinskey, walking along the blue line, pulled the Lowell defense to the middle of the ice, leaving Ricketts open at the right faceoff circle. McLinskey sent the quick feed to Ricketts, who sent a one-timer past the Riverhawks' goaltender. Ricketts' goal would stand as the game-winner, his third of the season.
  • McLinskey picked up a goal of his own with 5:50 remaining in the second bring the score to 4-1. Chasing down a pass along the boards, Guerra sent a shot towards the net, finding Ricketts' stick in front of the goaltender. Ricketts tipped the puck back to an open McLinskey at the post where he was able to send the puck behind the sprawling netminder.
  • UMass Lowell scored their second goal of the night 4:17 into the third period, but it would prove to not be enough.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Troutwine's assist on Cicero's goal was the first point of his collegiate career, while Seymour's assist was the first of his career.
  • With their four successful penalty kills tonight, Holy Cross extends its penalty kill streak to 36 opportunities.
  • The Crusaders blocked 29 shots tonight, their highest mark since March 7, 2020 when they blocked 34 at Robert Morris.
  • Junior Thomas Gale recorded 26 saves, while UMass Lowell's tandem of Henry Welsch and Luke Pavicich tallied 19. This was Gale's fifth game this season with over 25 saves.
  • The Riverhawks held the edge in faceoffs, taking 40 to Crusaders' 31.

UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will return after the holiday break, traveling to reigning national champion Quinnipiac on Saturday, December 30.
