WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's basketball sophomore forward
Meg Cahalan scored a career-high 17 points as the Crusaders had no problems defeating Connecticut College winning by an 80-39 score Thursday evening in the Hart Center Arena.
With the win, the Crusaders level their record at 4-4 while the Camels fall to 3-7.
Cahalan came off the bench and scored 17 markers on 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) shooting to go with three, rebounds, a personal-high three assists and a personal-best three blocks in 14 minutes of play.
Junior
Lindsay Berger, making her first start of the season filled the box score with 17 points, six boards, three assists, three blocks and a career-high matching three thefts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eight straight points to begin the quarter including a sophomore Simone Foreman three opened up an 8-0 Crusader lead. With the clock winding down at the end of the quarter, junior Lauren Huber took a feed from senior Cara McCormack and went coast to coast for a bucket and the 21-7 Crusader edge.
- Cahalan came out on fire to start the second collecting six of the first eight Crusader points. A McCormack corner three-ball expanded the lead to a first half high 24 at 40-16.
- Huber found Cahalan for a mid-range elbow jumper for the 57-28 margin with 2:24 remaining in the third.
- Freshman Simone Lewis canned a jumper for the highest lead of the game, 41 points with 1:09 left.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- The Crusaders had 30 assists, the last time a Holy Cross team recorded 30 dimes was Dec. 6, 2003 versus DePaul.
- Berger scored 13 of her 17 points in the second half missing only one shot.
- Foreman recorded 11 rebounds which marks the fourth time this season she's tallied double-figure rebounds.
- Sophomore Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly set a new career-high with six assists.
- Lewis and freshman Hannah Griffin manufactured their first collegiate points.
- This marks the third straight game the Crusaders have allowed below 50 points.
