Men's ice hockey travels to Canisius for weekend set

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team travels to Canisius for an Atlantic Hockey weekend set. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (4-2-1, 1-2-1 Atlantic Hockey):
  • Holy Cross continues to receive votes in the USCHO poll, picking up 12 votes this week.
  • Holy Cross fell to RIT in overtime on Friday, 3-2, before falling in regulation on Saturday, 3-2, for their first two losses of the season.
  • Senior netminder Jason Grande finished the weekend with 60 saves and six goals allowed. Grande is 14th in the country and leads Atlantic Hockey with a 1.83 goals-against average, and 19th in the country and third in the conference with a .928 save percentage.
  • Senior Jack Ricketts is on a seven-game point streak to start the 2023-24 campaign, having picked up at least one point in each game this season. His four goals and eight points leads the team.
  • Freshman Jack Stockfish became the first Crusader to earn Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month honors since 2019. Stockfish jumped right into the lineup for the Crusaders, playing all seven games in the opening month of the season. He leads the team in faceoff wins with 57, which places him third in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Stockfish picked up his first collegiate goal at UConn on October 14, the game-winner in the 2-0 shutout of the then-no. 20 team in the country. He then picked up his first two assists the next weekend at Robert Morris, before scoring his second goal this past weekend against RIT.

SCOUTING CANISIUS (0-4-0, 0-0-0 Atlantic Hockey):
  • The Golden Griffins have started the season 0-4-0, after dropping weekend sets to Miami (OH) and then-#8 Michigan State. Canisius was outscored 17-9 over the two weekends.
  • Despite being the reigning AHA champions, Canisius was picked to finish fifth and received no first place votes.
  • Canisius returns 18 players, while adding five freshmen and eight transfers.
  • Senior Randy Hernandez leads the team in points with five, while senior Jackson Decker leads in assists with three. Hernandez and freshman Matteo Giampa lead in goals with three each.
  • The goalkeeping duo of senior David Fessenden and freshman Ethan Robertson have combined for a goals-against average of 4.33 and .844 save percentage over the first four games.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • The Crusaders are 37-28-12 all-time against the Golden Griffins.
  • The last time the two teams met, in the 2023 Atlantic Hockey Championship game, the Crusaders fell to the Golden Griffins, 3-0.
  • The last time the Crusaders defeated the Golden Griffins was November 4, 2022, by a score of 3-1. Jack Ricketts, Liam McLinskey, and Tyler Ghirardosi scored the three goals for the Crusaders in the come-from-behind win.
