Holy Cross takes on Assumption for midweek non-conference game

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team heads down the road for a non-conference night game at Assumption on Tuesday Nov. 20. Puck drop is set for 6:50 p.m. at the Worcester Ice Center. Fans can watch the broadcast on the Northeast-10 Conference stream. 

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (3-8-2, 2-4-2 Hockey East): 

  • The Crusaders dropped both games against No. 12 UConn this past weekend. Holy Cross fell on Friday 3-0 at UConn and again on Saturday at home 3-1.
  • The lone goal of the weekend came in game two of the series with a goal scored by sophomore forward Alexia Moreau for her fourth on the season. She was assisted by sophomore forward Lane Lewis and senior forward Millie Sirum in the first period. Moreau's goal gave the Crusaders the 1-0 lead to end the opening period.
  • Sophomore goalie Brooke Loranger was between the pipes in both games for Holy Cross making 30 saves in game one and 22 saves in game two for a total of 52 saves on the weekend. Loranger has now only been in the net four times this season with a 3.54 goals against average and a .864 save percentage.
  • Holy Cross's leading scorers are Sirum and sophomore forward Alexis Perry who each have netted five goals apiece. Sophomore defenseman Casey Borgiel continues to lead the Crusaders in assists with nine while Moreau has the most points of any Holy Cross skater with 11 so far this season. Junior defensemen Emilie Fortunato, Carmen Elliott and Emma Min have the most blocks for the Crusaders with Fortunato racking up 21, closely followed by Elliott and Min who have 20 each.

GAGING THE GREYHOUNDS (4-8-1, 4-5-1 Northeast-10):

  • Assumption got off to a rocky start to begin their season losing three games in a row, then tying and dropping another before picking up their first win over Post. They hit another dry spell losing four more in a row and have recently turned things around winning three of their last three games. The Greyhounds, currently on a three game win streak last earned their victories over Saint Michael's in a two game series on Nov. 10-11 and this past Saturday Nov. 18 in a single game against Post where they took a swift 3-0 victory.
  • Their most recent win over Post was away with the Greyhounds earning an early lead with a goal just 51 seconds into play, scored by junior forward Sheridan Terrazzano. She was assisted by freshman defenseman Alexi Kirkeby. Not even two minutes later did Assumption strike again with a goal by freshman forward Kayla McGaffigan for the 2-0 lead. She was assisted by freshman forward Ella Rago. It wasn't until the second period when freshman forward Cassandra Johnson netted a goal to extend the Greyhounds lead to 3-0 at the 14:31 mark. She was assisted by sophomore forward Emma Gurnell.
  • Assumption's goalie for the competition was junior Carissa Mudrak who made a total of 27 saves on the outing. Murdrak has become a go-to choice for the Greyhounds between the pipes playing in nine of the teams 13 games this season. She has a season high of 53 saves which were made on Nov. 11 vs. Saint Michael's. The junior has yielded a goals against average of 2.75 with a ,918 save percentage this year.
  • Terrazzano is the Greyhounds leading scorer with five goals and has the most points of any of Assumption's skaters with eight. McGaffigan, freshman forward Jenna Chaplain, freshman defenseman Tegan Vaughan and freshman forward Rachel Agerter all have made four assists a piece this season. Johnson leads the Greyhounds in blocks with 24 so far.

  • This matchup marks the first time that Holy Cross and Assumption will play each other.
