ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior guard
Joe Octave totaled 16 points and eight rebounds, but the Holy Cross men's basketball team was defeated by Elon 83-69 in the Rock Hill Invitational at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center. The Crusaders fall to 1-4 overall, while the Phoenix improves to 3-2 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was close early on, and Holy Cross held a 14-12 lead after the first 7:27 of action.
• Elon scored the next eight points to pull in front, and later held a 35-31 edge with 3:27 left before the break.
• The Phoenix then closed out the half with a 9-4 spurt to take a nine-point advantage (44-35) into the locker room.
• Elon stayed hot to start the second half, using a quick 10-4 run to extend its edge to 15 points (54-39) with 16:43 remaining.
• The Phoenix's lead would stay in double figures for the rest of the night, with the final margin being 14 points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Crusaders made 44.4 percent of their field goal attempts and 40.9 percent of their three-pointers on the night.
• Elon was able to connect on 55.9 percent of its shots from the floor and 40.7 percent of its attempts from three-point range, while holding a 36-29 rebounding advantage.
• Sophomore guard
Will Batchelder totaled 11 points and three assists, while freshman guard
A.J. Wills scored a career-high eight points.
• Max Mackinnon led the Phoenix with 16 points and five rebounds.
