Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's ice hockey shuts out Bentley

WORCESTER, Mass. – Men's ice hockey shut out Bentley, 2-0, on Friday night at the Hart Center Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders (5-5-2, 2-5-2 Atlantic Hockey) got on the board at the 10:36 mark of the first period thanks to a tip-in goal by senior Tyler Ghirardosi. Sophomore Matt DeBoer picked up a rebounded shot by sophomore Mack Oliphant. Oliphant sent another shot onto the net, which Ghirardosi redirected into the bottom corner for the lead.
  • The two teams played even in the middle frame with the Crusaders holding the slight edge in shots, 5-3.
  • Senior Matt Guerra extended the Crusader lead to 2-0 with 1:28 remaining in the third period with a power play strike. Oliphant sent the puck across the blue line to junior Matt Shatsky who sent a wrist shot onto the net, finding Guerra for the tip. The Falcons (6-5-0, 4-3-0 Atlantic Hockey) netminder saved the initial tip before Guerra hammered the rebound through.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Junior Thomas Gale recorded 23 saves in his second shut out of his collegiate career.
  • Holy Cross held the slight edge in blocked shots, 14-13.
  • The two teams were even in shots, both putting 23 on net.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will travel to Bentley for the back end of the home-and-home series tomorrow, Saturday, November 18 at 4 p.m. in Waltham, Mass.
