Men’s basketball signs four to national letters of intent

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head men's basketball coach Dave Paulsen has announced that four student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to play for the Crusaders. Tyler Boston (Severn, Md.), Max Green (La Grange, Ky.), Chuck Hare (Shelton, Conn.) and Aidan Richard (San Antonio, Texas) will join the Holy Cross program in the fall of 2024.

"We're really excited about the addition of these players to our Holy Cross basketball family," Paulsen said. "Most importantly, they are tremendous young men who understand and embrace what it means to be excellent members of the community. They are engaged students in the classroom, and they pursue competitive excellence on the court. We have put a premium on recruiting players who place winning above individual accomplishments, who have offensive and defensive versatility, and who are true 'gym rats' with a strong desire to maximize their talents."

Boston is a 5-10, 170-pound guard, who plays for head coach Bruce Kelley at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md. He helped lead Bullis to a 26-5 record and the Interstate Athletic Conference championship as a junior, while being a two-time first team All-Interstate Athletic Conference selection. Boston also played AAU ball for Team Thrill.

Paulsen on Boston: "Tyler is a natural point guard and a born leader. He has flourished in one of the most competitive scholastic and grassroots basketball environments in the country. Tyler is ultra-competitive and will impact the game on both ends of the floor. Winning follows Tyler wherever he goes."

Green is a 6-6, 175-pound guard, who plays for head coach Josh Leslie at Oldham County High School in La Grange, Ky. He earned All 8th Region honors as a junior, after averaging 23.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, and hitting 48.0 percent of his field goal attempts, 39.4 percent of his three-pointers and 90.7 percent of his free throws. Selected to play with the Kentucky Boys Junior All-Star team, Green has scored over 1,000 career points. He also played AAU ball for Grand Park Premier.

Paulsen on Green: "Max is a natural-born scorer with an elite basketball IQ. He is an excellent shooter but has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He is a willing and able passer, and his size as a guard will create match-up problems for our opponents.  He has an innate confidence and the ability to play the game at his speed."

Hare is a 6-10, 210-pound forward, who plays for head coach Brad Seaman at the Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn. He averaged 11.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a junior, while hitting 63.4 percent of his field goal attempts and 70.1 percent of his foul shots. Hare also played AAU ball for Project Triple Threat.

Paulsen on Hare: "Chuck is something of a later bloomer. I've never seen a player make bigger strides from the end of his junior season to the beginning of his senior year. He has a relentless work ethic, a burgeoning skill set and is an excellent athlete. I can't wait to see his continued development."

Richard is a 6-6, 180-pound forward, who plays for head coach John Hirst at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas. He averaged 19.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game as a junior, while hitting 54.1 percent of his field goal attempts and 46.7 percent of his three-pointers. Ranked as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports, Richard earned All-State honors and has scored over 1,000 points in his career. He also played AAU ball for Texas Impact.

Paulsen on Richard: "Aidan is one of the most versatile high school players I've seen. He is an excellent shooter but distinguished himself this summer as an elite defender. He has been a key part of successful programs at the high school and grass roots level and is ready to make his mark on our Holy Cross program."

Holy Cross (1-2 overall) is in its first season under Paulsen, and returns to action this Friday, Nov. 17, when it faces Winthrop at 5 p.m. in the Rock Hill (S.C.) Invitational.
