NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving program rolled to a 178-116 victory in their season opener Saturday afternoon versus nonconference opponent Iona in the Hynes Center Pool.
The victory marked the second straight year that the Crusaders have opened their season with a win and the fourth time over the last five seasons.
Sophomore
Ainsley Nalen (2:06.49) and junior
Ginger Berry (2:14.08) had 1-2 finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Nalen (59.37) and Berry (1:01.40) touched the wall first and second in the 100-yard backstroke as well.
Seniors
Greta Walting (1:07.30) and
Emily Yu (1:10.19) picked up a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore
Sabrina Conrad (2:28.92) and Walting (2:30.70). were first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke respectively.
A trio of freshmen,
Sarah Grady,
Megan Nelson and
Courtney Boghosian collected their first collegiate wins. Grady scored a 241.65 in the one-meter dive while Nelson was first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.71) and Boghosian brought home first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.68).
Holy Cross will try for their second win of the year next Saturday, Oct. 14 when they host Bucknell in Patriot League action at 4 p.m. in the Hart Center Pool.
