WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore forward
Ethan Gill scored a career-high five points on two goals and one assist, to lead the Holy Cross men's soccer team to a 5-4 victory over UMass Lowell at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 4-6-2 on the season with the win, while the River Hawks fall to 2-5-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Junior forward
Evan Jones opened the scoring with a goal in the 13th minute.
• After Liam Ireland tied up the game for UMass Lowell in the 16th minute, Gill netted his first goal of the night in the 30th minute to put Holy Cross back in front 2-1.
• The River Hawks responded with three straight goals from Michael Oliveri, Daniele Mastroianni and Justin Milovanov to close out the half and take a 4-2 lead.
• Senior midfielder
Matt McGonigle cut the deficit to 4-3 in the 50th minute, putting in his own rebound after his penalty kick was saved.
• Gill then tied up the game at 4-4 in the 64th minute with his second goal of the night.
• The score remained tied until the 87th minute, when freshman forward
Brian Salvino scored the game-winning goal to give the Crusaders the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Salvino's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
• Holy Cross finished the game with an 18-11 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
• Jones now has 44 career points on 17 goals and 10 assists, moving into 12th place on the Crusaders' all-time scoring list.

• Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when it travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 12 p.m. game.
