Men's ice hockey falls short against RIT

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team fell to RIT, 3-2, Saturday night at the Hart Center Rink.

Senior Tyler Ghirardosi opened the scoring for the Crusaders (4-2-1, 1-2-1 AHA) 30 seconds into the opening period. Ghirardosi beat the defenseman to create a one-on-one opportunity with the RIT (4-2-0, 3-1-0) netminder, which he sent top shelf.

RIT scored two goals, one even strength and one power play strike, to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Tigers would score again in the opening minute of the second period to extend their lead to 3-1.

Freshman Jack Stockfish picked up a power play goal 7:02 into the third period to cut the RIT lead to 3-2. Senior Matt Guerra found Stockfish wide open across the ice, feeding him a perfectly placed pass for a one-time shot from the faceoff dot. Senior Jack Ricketts recorded his seventh special teams point of the season with his second assist on the strike, which leads Atlantic Hockey.

Senior netminder Jason Grande recorded 18 saves in the loss, while RIT's Tommy Scarfone posted 40 in the win.

The Crusaders will travel to Canisius for a rematch of last year's Atlantic Hockey Championship game on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
