WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward
Evan Jones scored his fifth goal of the season, but the Holy Cross men's soccer team was defeated by Harvard 2-1 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 5-8-2 on the season, while the Crimson improve to 4-3-6 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was scoreless until the 68th minute, when Juho Ojanen gave Harvard a 1-0 lead on a shot from 10 yards out on the right side.
• Holy Cross responded in the 83rd minute, as sophomore forward
Ethan Gill dribbled the ball from midfield into the left side of the penalty box, before his cross was headed in by Jones from five yards out in the center.
• But the Crimson came back with a goal from Andreas Savva in the 88th minute to pull out the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Harvard finished the game with a 16-11 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
• Jones' goal was the 18th of his Holy Cross career, tying him for 12th place in program history.
PINK GAME:
• The Crusaders wore pink jerseys against the Crimson for their annual Pink Game as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when it travels to Navy for a 6 p.m. game.
