WORCESTER, Mass.- The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team will travel to Providence, R.I. for game one of two on Friday, Oct. 13 before opening at home for game two against Brown on Saturday Oct. 14. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. at Meehan Auditorium and 7 p.m. at Hart Center Rink at Luth Athletic Complex. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East):
- The Crusaders' come off two heartbreaking overtime losses to Union to kick off the 2023-24 season. Game one went to the Chargers 3-2 in overtime and game two ended in a 4-3 overtime result.
- Senior forward Lilly Feeney got the Crusaders on the board early for the first goal of the season just 57 seconds into play.
- Holy Cross freshman forward Reghan Chadwick scored her first two collegiate goals on the weekend first in game one at Union minutes after Feeney's goal and netted the first Crusaders goal in game two at 5:43 unassisted. Chadwick currently leads the team in goals scored.
- Sophomore forward Lane Lewis had a strong start to the season scoring her first career goal in game two against the Chargers to take the lead in the first period. Lewis earned an assist as well in the competition.
- Senior forward Millie Sirum came out strong, netting her first goal of the year in game two to tie the game up 3-3 in the third period and send the game into overtime. Sirum recorded an assist on the outing as well.
- Sophomore forward Alexia Moreau leads the Crusaders in assists with two both made in game one of the series.
- Junior defensemen Emilie Fortunato, Emma Min and Carmen Elliott combined a total of 11 blocks for the Crusaders in the first two games. Fortunato also recorded an assist in game one.
- Senior goalie Madison Beck was in goal for game one against Union making 27 saves to 30 shots faced. She conceded three goals for a 2.82 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.
- Sophomore goalie Brooke Loranger protected the net in game two of the series making 22 saves to 40 shots faced. She let in four games owning a 3.90 goals against average and a .846 save percentage.
BACKGROUND ON THE BEARS (0-0-0, 0-0-0 ECACH):
- The Bears open their season hosting the Crusaders on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
- Brown returns a strong group back to the ice including sophomore Jada Iginla the Bears leading scorer from the 2022-23 season. Iginla netted 17 goals and had six assists on the season to earn ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year.
- The Bears also return five seniors, two juniors and a sophomore on the offensive end of note.
- On defense they bring back Honorable Mention All-Ivy defenseman Cameron Sikich and two-time Second Team All-Ivy selection Kaley Boyle in goal.
- The Bears concluded the 2022-23 season with a 9-19-1 overall record and 7-15-0 conference record. Brown finished in 9th place in the ECACH and did not qualify for the postseason.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- Holy Cross and Brown met last year with the Crusaders entering Bear country and coming out with the 1-0 loss in the one game set.
- Holy Cross holds a 1-3-0 all-time series record against Brown.
