WORCESTER, Mass. – Lafayette's Hale Lombard scored the only goal of the game as the Leopards defeated the Holy Cross men's soccer team 1-0 at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders fall to 3-6-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Patriot League, while Lafayette improves to 6-3-2 on the year and 3-1-0 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The game was scoreless until the 45th minute, when a foul was called just above the top left side of the Holy Cross penalty box.
• Lombard then found the net with a direct free kick from 20 yards out for the only scoring of the day.
• The Crusaders would outshoot the Leopards 7-6 in the second half, but were unable to score as Lafayette held on for the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• Junior goalkeeper
Tristan Stephani made four saves for Holy Cross, while Griffin Huff had three saves for the Leopards.
• Lafayette finished the game with a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when it plays host to UMass Lowell at 6 p.m.
