WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team opens 2023 at Frozen Fenway presented by Moderna and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Crusaders will face Boston University for a Hockey East matchup under the lights in Fenway Park. Puck drop is slated for 6:30 p.m.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (2-18-1, 1-14-0 Hockey East):
- Holy Cross enters Friday night with an overall mark of 2-18-1 and 1-14-0 in Hockey East play. The Crusaders are coming off a month-long break with their last game resulting in a 3-2 overtime loss against Boston University on Dec. 9.
- Senior Mary Edmonds and junior Millie Sirum tallied a goal apiece against the Terriers.
- Edmonds has jumped to first overall in most goals (5) and second in total points (8) on the season. She has recorded a point in her last three games and holds a two-game goal streak.
- Junior Bryn Saarela owns the team-high point total with nine, from four goals and five assists and leads the team in power play goals with two.
- Sirum sits beside Saarela at top rank in assists with five on the year. She lands third in total points with six.
- Freshman defender Casey Borgiel owns five points, the most of any defender, from four assists and one goal during her rookie season.
- Junior goalie Madison Beck and freshman Brooke Loranger have split time in goal for Holy Cross this season. Beck posted 27 saves against Boston in December. She has tallied 439 saves, a save-percentage of .920 and a goals-against average of 2.72 in 15 games.
- Loranger has seen action in eight games for the Crusaders owning 199 saves with a save percentage of .896 and goals-against average of 3.32. She set a new single-game career high in saves with 42 against Maine.
- The Holy Cross' penalty kill unit has found their rhythm in the back half of the season. In the last seven contests, the Crusaders have killed twelve of fifteen power play attempts. The last power play goal was from Franklin Pierce on Nov. 26.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE TERRIERS (7-12-0, 6-9-0 Hockey East):
- Boston University has not played a game since they faced the Crusaders in early December.
- The Terriers posted a 3-2 overtime victory with goals from Brooke Disher, Lacey Martin and the game-winning goal from Nadia Mattivi.
- Boston University has tallied nine power play goals on the year and hold an eighty-percent penalty kill rating. Senior forward Julia Nearis leads the team and ranks third in Hockey East standings with three power play goals.
- Nearis leads the Terriers in goals (7), assists (8) and points (15) with two two-point games, but was unable to tally a point against the Crusaders.
- Junior Lacey Martin sits with Nearis for most assists with eight.
- Andrea Brändli, a graduate student, and sophomore Callie Shanahan have split time in goal for the Terriers. Brändli owns 307 saves with a 1.92 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage. She holds the fifth lowest goals against average in Hockey East standings.
- Shanahan started in net against Holy Cross in December, posting 24 saves. She holds a .906 save percentage, 3.11 goals-against average and owns 271 saves in nine games.
HOCKEY EAST RANKINGS:
- Mary Edmonds ranks third in Hockey East for most faceoff wins (191) with an average of 9.10 wins per game. Alexia Moreau sits in ninth in the conference, averaging 7.50 wins per game.
- Emma Min has tallied 31 blocked shots during the season. She is tied for fourth in the conference. The Crusaders rank third in the conference for blocked shots (255) and blocked shots per game (12.14).
- Madison Beck holds the third highest total saves in Hockey East with 439. She averages 29.27 per game.
