WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team returns to action for a two-game homestead on Jan. 13 and 14. On Friday, the Crusaders will host Boston University for the final Turnpike Trophy matchup between the two programs this season. Puck drop is slated for 1 p.m.
On Saturday, Holy Cross will face the Boston College Eagles at 6 p.m. in the Hart Center for their third and final meeting of the season.
Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS (3-18-1, 2-14-0 Hockey East):
- Freshman Alexia Moreau scored the game-winning goal against the Terriers at Frozen Fenway. She leads the Crusaders in goals-scored, alongside senior Mary Edmonds. Moreau was awarded Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week for the second time this season for her performance on Jan. 6.
- Edmonds holds the team-high in points with nine. She is joined by junior Bryn Saarela, who tallied her latest point against Boston College on Dec. 3. Edmonds has maintained a four-game point streak heading into the weekend.
- Junior Millie Sirum leads the team for most assists with six, tallying her most recent on Moreau's game-winner at Frozen Fenway. She has assisted on three of Moreau's goals this season. Sirum lands second in total points with eight.
- Freshman defender Casey Borgiel has made a name for herself as a rookie. She owns six points, the most of any defender, from two goals and four assists. She recently posted a goal against Boston University on Jan. 6.
- Junior Madison Beck has spent the majority of the season in goal for the Crusaders. She owns 463 saves, a .920 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.67 after 16 games.
- The Holy Cross penalty kill unit continues to prove strong during the back half of the season. In their last six contests, the Crusaders have killed ten of 11 power play attempts. The last power play goal allowed was from Franklin Pierce on Nov. 26.
- The Crusaders' defense has been consistent in blocked shots with a season total 271, compared to their opponents' 185. Sophomore Emma Min leads the team with 32. She is closely followed by senior Kailey Langefels (31) and sophomore Emilie Fortunato (28).
- Holy Cross will be without head coach Katie Lachapelle. She is currently in Sweden coaching the U-18 U.S. Women's National Team.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE TERRIERS (7-14-0, 6-11-0 Hockey East):
- Boston University is coming off a two-loss weekend, including a 3-2 loss to Holy Cross at Frozen Fenway, followed by a shutout loss to No. 7 Northeastern, 6-0, on Sunday. Freshman Clara Yuhn and junior Clare O'Leary recorded a goal apiece in Fenway Park.
- Senior Julia Nearis leads the Terriers in points (15) and goals (7), with four multiple-point games this season.
- Junior Lacey Martin holds the team-high assist total with nine. She tallied her latest against the Crusaders on Friday night.
- Graduate student Andrea Brändli and sophomore Callie Shanahan have both seen time against Holy Cross this season. Brändli managed two shutout victories in twelve starts. She owns 362 saves with a 2.34 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.
- Shanahan started in net against the Crusaders on Dec. 9, posting 24 saves. She holds a .907 save percentage, 3.11 goals-against average and owns 282 saves after ten games.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- These programs have met twice during the season with results splitting one game each way.
- The teams first met on Dec. 9 in Boston where the Terriers pulled out an overtime victory, winning 3-2. Edmonds and Sirum each tallied a goal while Langefels, Sofia Smithson, Darci Johal and Charlotte Sonntag recorded assists.
- The teams most recently met on Friday night at Frozen Fenway, where the Crusaders took home a 3-2 victory. Johal, Borgiel and Moreau each scored a goal, while Edmonds, Sirum, Langefels and Lilly Feeney tallied assists.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE EAGLES (13-7-1, 11-5-0 Hockey East):
- Boston College is coming off a two-win weekend against Hockey East opponent Maine on Jan. 5 and 6. Graduate student Kelly Browne, senior Hannah Bilka, junior Gaby Roy, and sophomore Abby Newhook posted a two-point game in each contest.
- The Eagles will face No. 7 Northeastern on Friday night, before arriving to Worcester for Saturday's matchup.
- Bilka leads the Eagles in points (28) and assists (18), with nine multiple-point games this season.
- Newhook holds the team-high goal total with 12. She has recorded eight goals in her last seven games.
- Graduate student Abigail Levy started both games against the Crusaders and has spent majority of time between the pipes for the Eagles. She owns two shutout victories with 496 saves, a goals-against average of 1.80 and a save percentage of .945 on the year.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- These programs have met twice during the season for a home-and-home contest on Dec. 2 and 3.
- In their first meeting, the Crusaders hosted the Eagles for a Friday night matchup that led to a 2-1 overtime victory in favor of Boston College. Smithson tallied the lone goal for Holy Cross, assisted by Edmonds.
- The following day, the Crusaders fell to the Eagles 4-2 in Boston. Feeney and Edmonds notched the goals for Holy Cross, while Borgiel, Saarela and Smithson recorded assists.
- Beck posted 31 saves in the first game, followed by 34 in the second contest.
HOCKEY EAST RANKINGS:
- Edmonds ranks fourth in Hockey East for most faceoff wins (201) with an average of 9.14 wins per game. Moreau sits in ninth in the conference, averaging 7.57 wins per game.
- Min has tallied 32 blocked shots during the season. She is tied for sixth in the conference. The Crusaders rank third in the conference for blocked shots (271) and second in blocked shots per game (12.32).
- Beck holds the third highest total saves in Hockey East with 463. She averages 28.94 per game.
