Men’s ice hockey set to host Air Force this weekend


The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team hosts Atlantic Hockey rival Air Force on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m., and Sunday Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. The contests will stream live through FloHockey.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (5-13-2, 4-7-1 AHA):
  • The Crusaders tied Clarkson in their last game on Saturday, Jan. 7, 1-1. Freshman Mack Oliphant scored his first collegiate goal in the matchup when he tied the game with 1:19 remaining in the contest.
  • Holy Cross has won the last six matchups against Air Force, dating back to Jan. 24, 2020.
  • Since the 2013-14 season, the Crusaders are 12-4-4 in games against the Falcons.
  • Junior Jason Grande was named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Month after backstopping the Crusaders to a 2-1 month. Grande stopped 79 of 84 shots faced, giving him a 1.69 goals-against average and .940 save percentage over the three contests.
  • Junior Jack Ricketts leads the squad in goals (7) and points (13). Ricketts and freshman Devin Phillips are tied for the lead in assists with six. Grande holds a team-best 4-3-1 record, 2.75 goals against average and .905 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING AIR FORCE (6-12-2, 2-7-1 AHA):
  • Air Force comes into the matchup with a 1-8-1 record in their last ten games.
  • The Falcons' 2-7-1 AHA record places them in seventh in the Conference, while the Crusaders sit in fifth with a 4-7-1 record.
  • Will Gavin and Nate Horn lead the team with six goals each, while Luke Rowe and Brandon Koch lead in assists with nine. Rowe also leads in points with 14. Netminder Guy Blessing holds a team-best 6-8-1 record with a 3.23 goals against average and .888 save percentage.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • All time, the Crusaders are 19-25-13 against the Falcons.
  • This is the second series of the season between Holy Cross and Air Force. In Colorado Springs last month, the Crusaders swept the Falcons, 4-1, 2-1 in consecutive nights.
