Volleyball falls against Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross volleyball team trailed in the first two sets and won the third, but couldn't secure the tie and fell to Patriot League opponent Lehigh, 3-1, in Grace Hall.

With the setback, the Crusaders move to 2-12, 0-3 PL while the Mountainhawks increase their mark to 10-5, 1-2 PL with their first conference win of the season.

SET SCORES:
  • Mountainhawks 3, Crusaders 1 (25-15, 26-18, 21-25, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the first set, Holy Cross struggled back and forth with Lehigh to gain a significant lead until the Mountainhawks went on a nine-point scoring streak. Eventually, Lehigh came away with the 25-15 win.
  • During the second match, the Crusaders were able to gain a 10-5 lead in the set and stay a few points ahead of the Mountainhawks until they tied it up at 17-17. The two teams began to struggle for the lead again until Lehigh finally emerged with the 28-25 victory.
  • The Crusaders returned strong, led the entire third match and nabbed the 25-21 win.
  • Holy Cross and Lehigh were neck and neck until Lehigh went on a five-point scoring streak going from 19-19 to a 24-19 lead. After this, the Crusaders were able to bring the score 24-23 in favor of the Mountainhawks, but the hosts secured the match at 25-23.
INSIDE THE BOX:
  • Senior Halle Carter recorded seven digs in the first set to cross the 500-dig threshold of her collegiate career.
  • Freshman Rachel Johnson recorded a game-high in aces with four in the match.
  • Both sophomore Abbie Lane and Johnson earned double digits in kills and total attacks.
  • Three Crusaders had double-digit kills in the match: sophomore Mia Hofacker (10), Lane (16) and Johnson (12).
UP NEXT:
  • The Crusaders will stay in Pennsylvania to face the Bucknell Bison. The match beings at 4:00 p.m. at Bucknell's Davis Gym in Lewisburg, Pa.
