WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior midfielder
Bergin Kranz scored the only goal of the night and sophomore goalkeeper
Josh Tubbs made a career-high five saves to lead the Holy Cross men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. The Crusaders improve to 4-4-0 on the year, while the Huskies fall to 2-3-3 overall.
Kranz's goal came in the 26th minute, on a play that began when senior midfielder
Dylan Scanley passed the ball to senior midfielder
Matt McGonigle on the right wing. McGonigle then crossed the ball to the top of the box, where Kranz launched a shot just inside the right post from 18 yards out.
Tubbs made four of his five saves in the second half, including two in the final four minutes to earn his first career shutout.
Northeastern finished the game with an 11-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it plays host to Army West Point at 1:00 p.m.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Three of Kranz's four career goals have come against schools from Boston – two against Northeastern and one against Boston University.
• Scanley is now tied for the team lead with three assists on the year.
• The Crusaders improve to 3-0-0 at home this year, and are now 11-2-1 at home over the last three seasons.
