Megan Yurchick and senior hurler
Kelly Nelson have been awarded weekly Patriot League honors with Yurchick named the Player of the Week and Nelson tabbed as Pitcher of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Yurchick appeared in all three games for the Crusaders this past week helping the team to a sweep of Lafayette in their only action. Yurchick slashed .600/.600/.700 with a double and three RBI while going 1-0 in the circle with a 0.00 ERA, a .148 opposing batting average, and four strikeouts.
During game two Saturday, Yurchick was a dual-threat going a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI at the dish while hurling 6.1 scoreless innings picking up the win in the circle and stretching her scoreless streak to 15.2 innings. On Sunday Yurchick bashed a two run double to complete the run rule win in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Nelson earned her second Pitcher of the Week honor this season making three appearances including two starts in the circle. Nelson accumulated a 2-0 record, a 1.02 ERA 19 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, and a save.
On Senior Day Saturday, Nelson struck out 10 batters in her start, the eighth time this season she totaled double-digit K's. She came on to relieve Yurchick in game two and pitched a perfect 0.2 innings for her third save of the year. During Sunday's win, Nelson earned her 14th win of the season and became the first Crusader and fifth player in league history to amass 600 strikeouts.
The Crusaders finished the season 21-29 overall and 8-10 in conference action.Â
