Kelly Nelson named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross softball senior pitcher Kelly Nelson has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for competition from April 18-April 24 the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the first time this season and fourth time in her career that she's earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Nelson appeared in four games for the Crusaders this past week starting in the circle three times. Nelson went 2-1 recording a 0.62 ERA with a .165 opposing batting average striking out 26 batters in 22.2 innings. She picked up a save, her second of the season, and tossed three complete games. In the three game weekend set with Army, Nelson was an unblemished 2-0 with two complete games, a 1.00 ERA, .200 opposing batting average and 13 strikeouts as the Crusaders took the series.

The 2022 Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Nelson is the conference leader in strikeouts (195) and innings pitched (166.1) while ranking second in earned run average (2.27), opposing batting average (.223), and tied for second in saves (2) and, fourth in wins (11).

Currently, Nelson has 565 career strikeouts, the second-most all-time in program history and needs 15 to break Genoa Grosch's (1996-1999) mark of 579.

Holy Cross (16-28, 5-10 PL) embarks on their last road trip of the season when they battle Merrimack (8-23, 4-11 NEC) on Tuesday in North Andover at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
