Men's lacrosse downs UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team downed UMass Lowell 15-14 on Wednesday, April 20 at Cushing Field.

Junior attack Thomas McIntire led the Crusaders (1-11, 0-7 PL) to victory with five goals and one assist. Sophomore goaltender Dawson Friers posted 13 saves on the day.

Jake Davis notched four goals and two assists to lead the River Hawks (1-11, 2-4 AE). Goaltender Anthony Mancino made 10 saves in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Will Spangenberg tallied the first goal for the Crusaders with an assist from McIntire with 6:58 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Moments later, junior attack Dean DiNanno found the back of the net with 6:04 remaining in the first to tie the score up, 2-2.
  • After battling for the lead, the Crusaders led 4-3 to end the quarter.
  • In the second quarter, McIntire scored four goals, and junior midfielder Connor Boyle fired a shot past Mancino to make the score 9-6 to end the half.
  • To begin the third quarter, senior defender Chris Conlin broke away from the pack to bring the score to 10-6 with 14:02 remaining.
  • After a three-goal scoring streak from UMass Lowell, McIntire earned his fifth and final goal of the day to bring the Holy Cross lead to 11-9.
  • Junior attack Jayce Lambert kicked off the fourth quarter with a goal from junior attack T.J. Lynch.
  • After a close battle with the River Hawks, the Crusaders emerged victorious, 15-14.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Conlin who currently ranks second in the nation in caused turnovers also scored the first goal of his career.
  • Holy Cross led the day in caused turnovers 8-5, four of which were caused by Conlin.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return home for a contest against Siena on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 pm.
