Men's lacrosse falls to Loyola Maryland

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell, 16-8, to Loyola Maryland on Saturday, April 2 at Kuzniewski Field.

Junior attack Thomas McIntire led the day for the Crusaders (0-9, 0-5 PL) with three goals. Sophomore goaltender Dawson Friers posted 17 saves on the day.

Kevin Lindley and Joey Kamish scored four goals each to lead the Greyhounds (4-5, 3-1 PL) to victory. Goaltenders Sam Shafer, Colton Teitelbaum and Luke Staudt made a combined total of 10 saves in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • McIntire scored the first goal of the day for the Crusaders with an assist from senior attack Will Spangenberg 6:59 into the first quarter to tie the score at 1-1.
  • Moments later, freshman attack John Mitchell bagged the first goal of his collegiate career with an assist from Spangenberg, giving the Crusaders the 2-1 lead.
  • Sophomore midfielder Tim O'Callaghan broke a five-goal scoring streak for Loyola with a goal 5:03 into the second quarter with an assist from junior attack Dean DiNanno to bring the tally to 6-3.
  • Mitchell earned his second goal of the day with 5:36 remaining in the first half with an assist from Spangenberg.
  • After a scoreless third quarter for the Crusaders, Spangenberg ended the scoring drought with a goal at 1:44 of the fourth quarter with an assist from DiNanno to make the score 15-5.
  • At 2:30 of the fourth quarter, McIntire followed with another goal from DiNanno, bringing the tally to 15-6.
  • McIntire earned a hat trick with an unassisted goal with 11:08 remaining in the game.
  • Holy Cross finished the game with an unassisted goal from freshman attack Daniel Addonizio with 34 seconds remaining in the fourth period, bringing the final score to 16-8.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The two teams finished the day tied in faceoffs, 14-14.
  • Friers faced a season high of 51 shots with 33 being shots on goal.
UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return home for a contest against Lafayette on Saturday, April 9 at noon.
  • Before the contest, Holy Cross will hold a brief ceremony to honor the team's seniors and their contributions to the program.
