WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Holy Cross men's tennis team dropped a close 4-2 match to Loyola (Md.) at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Crusaders fall to 1-9 on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 4-3 overall.
Holy Cross began the day by taking the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Sophomore
William Kelleher and sophomore
Connor Nelson downed Matt Cardano and Edik Pribitkin 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while freshman
Jeremy Clark and senior
Alexander Ruenhorst won 6-4 over Oliver Davey and Liam Rompere at No. 3.
In singles action, junior
Declan O'Flynn earned a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Ryan Boland at No. 6, while the Greyhounds had wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots. Loyola's Skyler Gates then edged Kelleher 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to give the Greyhounds the victory. In the No. 4 singles match, Ruenhorst led George Cavo 6-3, 3-6, 4-2 when play was stopped.
The Crusaders return to action on Sunday, March 27, when they remain in West Point, N.Y., to face Lafayette at 3:00 p.m.
