WORCESTER, Mass. — The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell, 16-10, to No. 14/13 Boston University on Saturday, March 19 at Kuzniewski Field.
Senior attack
Will Spangenberg led the day for the Crusaders (0-7, 0-3 PL) with five goals and one assist. Sophomore goaltender
Dawson Friers made 15 saves in the contest.
Christian Quadrino scored four goals and recorded one assist for the undefeated Terriers (6-0, 3-0 PL). Goaltender Matt Garber made 15 saves on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Crusaders were held scoreless until 1:26 of the second quarter when junior attack Dean DiNanno fired a shot past Garber, bringing the score to 2-1.
- BU was able to tack on a pair of goals before Spangenberg netted his first goal of the day with an assist from sophomore midfielder Tim O'Callaghan to make the score 4-2.
- With 5:01 remaining in the second quarter, junior attack T.J. Lynch snuck his way past BU with an assist from DiNanno to bring the Crusaders' deficit to 5-3.
- Spangenberg began the second half with a goal assisted by senior defender Chris Conlin.
- At 5:32 of the third quarter, DiNanno tallied his second goal of the day to make the score 6-4.
- The Terriers were on a three-goal scoring streak until Spangenberg found the back of the net for the third time during the game, bringing the score to 10-6.
- At 3:28 and 6:39 of the fourth, Spangenberg scored two goals for Holy Cross with assists from O'Callaghan and junior midfielder Connor Boyle.
- BU completed a four-goal scoring streak before DiNanno capitalized on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Lynch.
- Freshman attack Daniel Addonizio rounded out the with a man-up goal from Spangenberg, making the total, 16-10 in favor of the Terriers.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- BU's defense has only allowed 10 goals one other time this season, when they faced Merrimack.
- Conlin again led the day in caused turnovers with a total of three. He also picked up two ground balls.
- Both Friers and Garber made 15 saves on the day.
