WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's lacrosse senior
Jolie Creo set a season-high with seven goals for eight points as the Crusaders rallied from a four-goal fourth quarter deficit to eventually fall by a 14-13 score Tuesday evening at Kuzniewski Field.
Creo went to work in the final period scoring three goals including her seventh and final with 3:30 left to give the Crusaders (1-3) the 13-12 lead. Brown (2-2) eventually leveled the margin at 13 all when Alaina Parisella connected on a shot just outside the crease with 1:18 to play. A minute later, Sophia DeRosa was smothered by multiple Holy Cross defenders and somehow muscled home the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining.
Senior goalkeeper
Grace Flink made 12 saves in the setback while Brown netminder Erin Tucker stopped 10 shots in the win.
Brown scored the first goal of the game then the Crusaders notched the next six goals to lead 6-1 at the 6:56 mark. The fourth goal of the scoring run was an impressive feed by Creo from behind the cage to an open senior
Jordyn Arakelian right outside the crease. The guests would creep back into the contest scoring the final three goals of the half to trail 6-4 after two quarters.
A brief scoreless drought happened in the third until Creo converted a spinning shot to increase the Crusader lead to 7-4. Brown powered home the next seven goals with two each off the shot of Leah Caputo, Mia Mascone, and Sophia DeRosa to turn the momentum of the game in their favor at 11-7. With two seconds left junior
Charlotte Wittstock dropped the deficit down to three, 11-8 at the end of the third.
The Crusaders will wrap up their two-game homestand this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. versus Bryant.
