WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's ice hockey team fell to Providence College, 3-2, in an overtime contest on Sunday, Feb. 6 at the Hart Center Rink.

Sofia Smithson each had a goal for Holy Cross (3-25, 1-22 Hockey East). Senior goaltender
Jada Brenon made 41 saves.
Isabelle Hardy had two goals to lead Providence (11-12-5, 8-11-2 Hockey East).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Feeney put the Crusaders on the board at 11:47 of the first with a shorthanded tally.
- That Holy Cross lead held until late in the second period, when Hardy had a pair of goals just over two minutes apart – at 16:21 and 18:41 – to give the Friars a 2-1 edge.
- Smithson knotted things up at 13:08 of the third period.
- For the second consecutive game, the Crusaders and Friars headed to overtime; Hunter Barnett capitalized just 1:22 into the overtime frame to secure the 3-2 victory for Providence.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Smithson's goal was her first of the season.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross will play a home-and-home series against New Hampshire on Feb. 11 and 12.
- The Crusaders and Wildcats will play the opener in Durham, N.H., with puck drop slated for 6 p.m.
- The series will round out with a 6 p.m. contest at the Hart Center Rink.
