WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team couldn't hold off Sacred Heart, falling 4-1 on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Hart Center Rink.
Sophomore defenseman
Jake Higgins scored the lone goal of the evening for the Crusaders (8-19-2, 5-12-2 AHA). Senior defenseman
Matt Slick blocked four shots.
Neil Shea finished with two goals and an assist to lead Sacred Heart (11-14-3, 8-10-2 AHA).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game cut to intermission with 3:47 remaining in the first period after the glass needed repairs, with the game stuck in a 0-0 deadlock. Following the early intermission, Holy Cross got on the board first after Higgins scored with 1:52 left in the first frame.
- Rourke Russell evened things up at 12:10 of the second period.
- John Jaworksi had a power-play goal at 6:45 of the third to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead.
- Neil Shea added an insurance goal to make it 3-1 at 11:14 of the third, and he later secured an empty-netter to make it a 4-1 game for Sacred Heart.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Higgins' goal was the first of his collegiate career.
